Woodmoor, Colorado is an unincorporated community just north of Colorado Springs. Built on and around land parcels that originally comprised a cattle ranch, Woodmoor was founded by developer Steve Arnold in 1957. Arnold envisioned a semi-rural residential community for the many military families in the area, with sprawling, wooded lots along winding country roads offering brilliant views of Mount Hermann and Pikes Peak. Woodmoor was given its present name by 1964, and in 1971 Arnold founded a homeowner’s association with the express purpose of preserving the area’s rural ambience and natural beauty. With its scenic vistas, lush forests and small-town charms, all just a short drive from downtown Colorado Springs, Woodmoor continues to attract residents and families both civilian and military.

COLORADO: LAND OF ADVENTURE

With an area of more than 100,000 square miles, Colorado's vast expanse is home to a striking variety of wildlife and natural scenery. At 14,440 feet, the summit of Mount Elbert is the highest point in both the state Colorado and the entire Rocky Mountain range. Home to four national parks, Colorado offers unrivaled opportunities for hiking and outdoor recreation, scenic drives, art and cultural exhibits, retail shopping, amusement and leisure.
Climate
Seasonal temperatures in Colorado vary widely by region. Generally speaking, the Eastern Plains are quite sunny and dry, with temperatures frequently exceeding 100°F in the summer months. The Front Range Urban Corridor, Home to most of Colorado's residents, experiences relatively mild winters, with daytime highs in the forties, though temperatures can plummet to single digits at night. Summers in the region are hot, with daytime highs near 90°F in July, though the dry air moderates the heat somewhat. Residents and visitors alike should be prepared for abrupt temperature changes, as conditions can vary greatly within the course of a day.

Colorado's capital is Denver, which lies in the South Platte River Valley in the north-central region of the state. The state government consists of three branches: Executive (headed by the governor), Legislative (comprising the Colorado General Assembly), and Judicial (headed by the Colorado Supreme Court).
